Automotive

Due to our specialization in automotive insert injection molding, SCG has produced countless parts that have been used in cars since the 1980s.

These three parts made by SCG exemplify the progression of automotive airbag technology. The part shown on the left was produced in the 80's and early 90's and was used in the first generation of airbags. This design was based around a rolamite, which rolled into an electrical contact during an impact thereby triggering the sensor.

In the mid-90's these devices were replaced by integrated circuit accelerometers. SCG continues to produce housings for airbag accelerometers and control modules. One example is the RAS crash sensor housing shown in the middle of the photo.

More recently, automobile engineers have begun using air pressure sensors in car doors designed to respond to side impacts. These sensors respond to the sudden increase in air pressure that occurs as a car door is crushed by an impact. SCG currently produces housings for these new sensors. An example can be seen on the right of the photo.
